SIMPLE CAKE MIX BALLS

Category: Truffles, bonbons and candies
Preparation time: 3 h 30 min

INGREDIENTS:

18 oz boxed cake mix and required ingredients (eggs, milk, etc.)
16 oz container of premade store-bought frosting
32 oz milk chocolate candy coating made for melting
Toothpicks

Assembly:
Use 9x13 baking pan with cake mix.
Bake the cake according to the directions on the package.
Let cake cool completely to room temperature. If possible, let chill overnight in the refrigerator.
Crumble cake into a large mixing bowl until all of the crumbs are very fine. You can do this by hand or place it in a blender and pulse it a few times to make it crumbly.
Add 3/4 of the cake frosting container to the mix and combine thoroughly by hand. Do not add additional frosting or your mixture will become too moist.
Roll into 1-1/2 inch balls by hand and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Cover cake balls with plastic wrap and chill in the freezer for 15 minutes.
Place melting chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave on high for 20 seconds at a time, stirring each time. Continue this process until the coating is completely melted and smooth but not burnt.
Using two forks, dip each cake ball in the chocolate coating and tap it on the side of the bowl to remove the excess.
Return the dipped cake balls to the lined baking sheet.
Using toothpicks, draw a circle around each cake ball to separate it from any dripping chocolate on the wax paper.
Chill in the refrigerator for 2 hours to set up.
Serve.
